Most of the activists and supporters of Indian National Congress find resemblance between the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her granddaughter Priyanka Gandhi and wish to see her at the party helm, but current party president Sonia Gandhi’s favour for her son Rahul Gandhi has kept Priyanka out of limelight.

Rahul was made chief of the Congress, which has governed India for most of its post-independence history, at the desire of Sonia and performed the duty from Dec 2017 to 3 Jul 2019 before Sonia took over as the party chief again.

Many believe Rahul’s leadership was a super flop that led to the party’s defeat to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

They attribute the defeat to Rahul’s weak personality and leadership. They believe that the Congress party’s staying out of power for long seven years has lessened its influence on the Indian politics.
