The Parbatya Chattagram Chukti Bastobayan Andolon (Movement for the Implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord) has expressed deep concern over the suspension of the upcoming meeting of the Chittagong Hill Tracks Land Dispute Resolution Commission, scheduled for Sunday, 19 October in Rangamati.
The decision to postpone the meeting follows a hartal threat issued by the Parbatya Chattagram Chhatra Parishad (PCCP), a student organisation representing rehabilitated Bengali settlers in the CHT.
In a press statement issued on Friday, by joint conveners human rights activist Zakir Hossain and Dr Khairul Islam Chowdhury, a professor at Dhaka University, the movement criticised the interim government for failing to take concrete steps towards implementing the 1997 peace accord since the July 2024 political upheaval.
They noted that the government formed a monitoring committee on 12 January 2025, chaired by Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain, which held a promising meeting on 19 July in Rangamati.
The leaders stressed that activating the Land Commission is essential for resolving long-standing land disputes in the region. They condemned the suspension as a setback and urged the government to ignore threats and reschedule the meeting immediately to ensure progress in peace implementation.
The statement was signed by Murshida Akhter Daisy, from the movement’s publicity wing.
