Women's computer training project, which is  aimed to turn women into human resources for building a digital Bangladesh, is likely to be extended.

This will help creating employment and self-employment opportunities for them.

In this case, the third amendment proposal to the project titled “District-Based Women Computer Training (64 Districts)” has been sent to the Planning Commission with an extension of two years, a planning commission official said.

The revised estimated total cost of the project has been increased to Tk 118.79 crore and the duration extended by two years till 2023, he mentioned.

However, the initial estimated project cost of Tk 52 crore went up to Tk 87 crore after two revisions.

In 2013, Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha started implementing the district-based women computer training project with a view to creating entrepreneurs in the IT sector through imparting training across the country.

Nazmul Hossain Khan, the Project Director, said training in this project is run under the Technical Education Board.

The project has limited scope for increasing the coverage of the courses, he mentioned.

On the other hand, there is also wide-spread interests among women in the two courses currently underway, he said adding that, the duration and cost of the project are being increased.

Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha has provided loans to create women entrepreneurs, but there are few loan opportunities in this project, he mentioned.

The main activities of the project are imparting training, renting office, purchasing raw materials, spare parts, stationery, computer equipment, furniture and repair of vehicles so on.

The officials of the National Women's Organization said that the project will be extended for two years through the third amendment without any new project to maintain the continuity of the training activities and the training activities will be included in the regular activities of the National Women's Organization within these two years.

On the other hand, the project is highly effective and timely, so the proposed revised project is favored.

Besides, an increase of Tk 1.18 crore for internship, Tk 3.79 crore for office rent and Tk 5.13 crore for computer and hardware sector was proposed.

In the third amendment proposal to the project, resources have been provided for the purchase of 35 ACs at a cost of Tk 31.48 lakh, 64 generators at a cost of Tk 44.16 lakh, a digital camera at a cost of Tk 90 thousand and a fridge and oven.
