Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) Chairperson Abdur Rouf today said presence and implementation of the Competition Act would help the country to raise the Gross Domestic Product

(GDP) by at least 2 percent annually, reports BSS.

“The economy would be expanded by 2-3 percent if we ensure the competition at every sector,” he said while addressing a seminar on competition in the market at Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) office, said a press release.

Rouf said the countries which introduced such commission have raised their economies by 2-3 percent. He, however, said the BCC is yet to start function on full swing due to lack of adequate rules and regulations.

The government enacted the Competition Act in 2012 and formed Commission in 2016.

The BCC so far conducted two cases against business entities for violating competitive norms in the market.

Rouf said although the two cases are small success stories, but it is similar to pilot any project.

Commerce Secretary Shafiqul Islam and economist Dr Abdur Razzak also spoke while ERF General Secretary SM Rashidul Islam moderated the seminar
