Company fined Tk 3 lakh for selling unauthorised products

A business in Habiganj has been fined Tk 3 lakh for marketing oil, detergent and tea leaves without the approval of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Thursday noon.

Executive Magistrate Mashfika Hossain conducted the mobile court in the suburban BSCIC industrial city. She collected a total fine of Tk 3 lakh from Mizanur Rahman Mizbah Uddin and one other involved with the business called Messrs Noor Medina Enterprise.

Mashfika Rahman said the company was marketing detergents, soybean oil and tea leaves without BSTI approval. They use packaging from various well-known companies in the market so, a fine of Tk 3 lakh has been imposed under the Consumer Rights Act.

She added that 150 packets of detergent, 2 liters of soybean oil and a few packets of tea leaves were seized from there. Police members of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station were present during the operation.
