Companiganj AL leader Mizanur lands in jail

Awami League leader Mizanur Rahman Badal, the rival of Bashurhat Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza, landed in jail after he was produced before a Noakhali court on Friday.  

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Noakhali Md Soyeb Uddin Khan sent him to jail following hearing in four cases. 

Md Hossain Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) of police in Noakhali, confirmed the matter. 

Earlier on Thursday, DB police arrested Mizanur Rahman Badal, former chairman of Companiganj upazila and also the organisational secretary of the upazila Awami League, over a clash between two factions of the ruling party.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Noakhali M Alamgir Hossain said that Badal has been shown arrested in several cases. 

Meanwhile, a large number of law enforcers have been deployed in the Basurhat municipality area in the wake of the clash on Tuesday.

At least 27 people have been arrested till now in connection with the deadly clash between two rival factions of Awami League. The clash between supporters of Quader Mirza and supporters of Mizanur Rahman Badal left one person dead and more than 30 others injured, many with gunshot wounds. The 27 suspects were nabbed from different parts of the upazila.
