Bus workers went on a wildcat strike on all the routes of the district protesting alleged attacks on fellows and inflicting sufferings.

Satkhira Bus Owners’ Association President Saiful Karim Sabu said a group of youths beat bus conductor Liton Hossain at Puratan Satkhira on Satkhira-Ashashuni road of the district town on Monday. They also beat another conductor Asad on Tuesday morning, he said.

Following the two incidents, bus workers stopped plying their vehicles on all the routes of the district from 10am, Saiful said, adding that the injured were receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital. They also threatened to continue the strike unless the attackers are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the sudden transport strike caused untold sufferings to commuters. Many were seen walking on foot to reach their destinations for lack of bus.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said no complaint was lodged about the beating incidents. “Action will be taken if any complaint is filed,” he said.
