Strengthening of community policing activities could effectively eliminate social crimes like drug abuse, extortion, terrorism, dowry, child marriage and violence against children and women to build a peaceful society.
Police officials and community leaders said this in a views-sharing meeting arranged at an open house day programme held at Kawnia police station premises in Rangpur on Sunday afternoon.
Kawnia police station organized the event for members of the local community policing community, community leaders, public representatives, politicians, journalists, teachers, students and elite.
Officer-in-Charge of Kawnia police station Md. Muntaseer Billah presided over the event moderated by its Sub-inspector Md. Bulbul Ahmed.
Chairman of Balapara union parishad Md. Ansar Ali, Kawnia Upazila Awami League Vice-president Md. Joynal Abedin, its Organizing Secretary Md. Jomser Ali, President of Kawnia Press Club Mostaq Ahmed and senior journalist Sarwar Alam Mukul, among others, addressed.
The speakers laid importance on further strengthening of community policing activities through enhancing interaction, mutual confidence and understanding between police and people to maintain law and order in the society.
They said common citizens should assist the police force also as per their constitutional obligation to curb and prevent crimes for building a sustainably peaceful and calm society.
Ansar Ali stressed on bridging common people, members of community policing committee and police by ensuring better coordination among them for reducing the gap between police and people to control social crimes.
The OC called for engaging spontaneous efforts of all concerned to extend full cooperation to police in preventing social curses, crimes, terrorism, drug and violence against women and children.
