The price of garlic is increasing in the markets of the capital side by side with prices of other essential commodities.
Garlic prices have already doubled within a few weeks.
On the other hand, all kinds of vegetables are being sold at high prices. The prices of tomatoes and carrots have risen anew in a week. However, the price of eggplant and yard long beans has come down a bit in a week.
Such a situation was observed on Friday morning after visiting some kitchen markets of the capital.
Traders are selling imported garlic at Tk 190 to Tk 200 per kg, up from Tk 80 to Tk 100 three weeks ago. And a kilogram (kg) of local garlic is being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100. Onion price remains as last week, per kg at Tk 35 to Tk 40.
Meanwhile, in the vegetable market, carrots are being sold at the highest prices like last week. Traders are selling one kg of carrots at Tk 150 to Tk 160. Along with carrots, the price of tomatoes has also increased in a week. One kg of tomatoes is being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80, yard long bean is being sold at Tk 60 per kg, eggplant is Tk 50 per kg, papaya is Tk 40, pointed gourd, orka, luffa, snake gourd all are being sold at Tk 50 per kg.
Karwan Bazar trader Asadullah while talking to this correspondent said, “As the carrot and tomato season has gone, prices have increased in the market. Other
vegetable prices are reducing following the improving situation of supplies in the capital.”
There was no change in the price of chicken during the week. Traders are selling broiler chicken at Tk 155 to Tk 160 per kg. Sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 290 to Tk 310 per kg. Beef is being sold at Tk 700 per.
