LGRD Minister Tajul Islam has said commercialization of agriculture and diversifying agricultural products can significantly contribute to improve the socio-economic conditions of Bangladesh which may also assist reducing the relative losses in the global economic recession due to Corona and Russia-Ukraine war.
He also remarked that agricultural mechanisation is also important to increase agricultural productivity; thanks to the government's adoption of a modern and efficient agricultural system by the government, the productivity of agriculture is growing with rising crop intensity.
He was addressing a Budget Analysis as chief guest titled “The Economic Transformation and Rural Development of Bangladesh”, held on Friday at the BARC auditorium, Farmgate in the capital.
The seminar was organised by Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association
“It is fact that seventy-five per cent of the people of this country depend on agriculture, which is also the basis of self-reliance in Bangladesh”, Minister said.
He further emphasised how robust agricultural commercialisation is essential for economic growth and progress as agriculture improves the fortunes of urban and rural people.
State Minister of Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam was present as a special guest while Professor Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam presented keynote with Sajjadul Hasan, President of the Agricultural Economist Association in the chair.
LGRD Minister also mentioned that many educated unemployed people in the country are self-reliant, getting established and successful by utilising the various support and benefits of the government in agriculture.
The minister urged the young generation to join the agriculture and fisheries production instead of running after jobs to eliminate unemployment.
