MV Shahriar Jahan, a commercial ship laden with stones, was stranded on the shoal of Pashur River near the Sundarbans after being caught in a storm at Mongla port in Bagerhat. The incident took place in Harbaria area of Mongla port.

A rescue boat was sent to  the port late on Tuesday night  to safely remove the merchant  ship. However, the ship remained stranded on the river until Wednesday morning.

The Harbour Division of the Mongla Port Authority said the commercial ship could be  safely evacuated if the tide was normal.

On May 31, the MV Shahriar Jahan ship arrived at Mongla port with 21,000 metric tons of raw material for four cement mills

in Khulna.
