Commerce ministry plans project for strengthening ICAB

Commerce ministry is envisaging to undertake an infrastructure development project to strengthen the professional institutes including the Institute of chartered accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) with a view to ensuring more contribution of professional bodies to the development of economy.

Commerce ministry secretary Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, Secretary spoke on various initiatives of the government and made this remark while he was visiting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) on Tuesday. 

Sharifa Khan, Additional Secretary, Maleka Khairunnesa, Additional Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Secretary, Mohammad Mashooqur Rahman Sikder, Deputy Secretary (ps to the commerce minister), and Pronob Kumar Ghosh, Sr. Assistant Secretary( ps to commerce secretary) of the ministry also accompanied Dr.  Jafar Uddin.  

Secretary Dr Jafar Uddin was quite upbeat about the vibrant role of the chartered accountants in foreign trade and commerce, specially the development of the economy. He advised for increased interaction with government so that the objectives of the Institute can be advanced. 

He also advised to accommodate various development agenda in the form of project like the infrastructure development projects under the ministry of commerce. 

ICAB President  Mahmudul Hasan Khusru FCA along with Vice President Sidhartho Barua FCA, Md Abdul Kader Joaddar FCA  and Maria Howlader FCA, and Chief Executive Officer Shubhashish Bose  warmly greeted Dr, Zafar Uddin, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce at the premises. They exchanged views on different professional matters.  Council Members, Past Presidents and senior officials of the ministry were present during the occasion.  Mr. Uddin visited ICAB’s library, students’ affairs division, examination section and training facilities of CA Bhaban. 

Citing some landmark initiatives of ICAB to change the eco-system of the financial arena of the country, ICAB President Mahmudul Hasan Khusru FCA said, there is an urgent need to strengthen the members of ICAB so that they can contribute more to the economy and be aligned to the government’s mission and vision. He also said, ICAB is working in government policy advocacy level to create a business-friendly environment to help bring more foreign direct investment(FDI) in the country. 

Regarding the document verification system (DVS) Khusru informed that ICAB has developed the system jointly with NBR and is ready to work on the issue with other relevant stakeholders. He also vowed to take such initiatives for progress and development of the country.
