Unemployment has long been a serious problem in Bangladesh. It needs no mentioning that under the incumbent government, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable economic growth, but hitherto, unemployment is recognised as one of the major problems hindering holistic development of the country. On top of that, unemployment rate has increased due to Covid-19 pandemic since March.

Considering the situation, it is good news for youths that the government has devised a scheme to create more than 1.19 crore new jobs in the next five years to make good the economic losses incurred from the Covid-19 pandemic.

As reported by this on Thursday, in order to create jobs, the government is planning to attract foreign investments especially in the special economic zones by creating a business-friendly environment. Besides, the government will diversify labour markets to create employment.

By creating entrepreneurs we can reduce the

pressure on the country’s job markets and

reinforce the country’s economic growth

Since the start of a nationwide shutdown in March, millions of people have lost their jobs. For many it has been a question of survival, with food security growing even more precarious.

In such a situation, the government should encourage youths to choose entrepreneurship over jobs by offering them easy loans. We need to promote a culture of entrepreneurship among our students. There is no denying that entrepreneurship does not constitute such a social security as employment in large companies does, but it can reduce the country’s growing burden of unemployment and contribute to economic growth.

We envisage that by creating entrepreneurs we can reduce the pressure on the country’s job markets and reinforce the country’s economic growth. Entrepreneurship is indispensable for a country’s economic development and in order to encourage more youths to choose entrepreneurship over jobs, necessary steps should be taken to create a supportive atmosphere for the freshers and budding young entrepreneurs and facilitate them with appropriate tools.
