Commemorative event on poet Hayat Saif held

Remembering the noted poet of sixties and translator, Hayat Saif, who died on May 13, Bangla Academy organised a commemorative programme yesterday at 11:00am at Shamshur Rahman Seminar Hall of Bangla Academy in Shahbag of the capital.

Presided over by Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam, eminent poet, writers and cultural personalities took part in the event.

Saiful Islam Khan, a public servant by profession, used to write under the pen-name of Hayat Saif. His first poetry was published in the then Samakal in 1962. Poet Hayat Saif wrote 15 books, including eight collections of poems and two of essays. A number of poems and articles and some books written by the poet had also been translated into English and Spanish languages. His collection of literary essays titled ‘Ukti o Upalabdhi’ was published in 1992. He served as a member and acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue.

Hayat Saif was awarded Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian award of the country, in 2018.
