It has been reported that although the proposed budget demand of the university was Tk 92 crore 70 lakh 42 thousand, the budget for the 2025-26 financial year was passed with a deficit of around Tk 16 crore 60 lakh.
In the approved budget, an allocation of Tk 2 crore 93 lakh has been kept for research, which is 3.85 percent of the total budget. In the 2024-25 financial year, the allocation for this sector was Tk 2 crore 61 lakh.
The budget expenditure has been divided into 62.75 percent for salaries, allowances, and pensions, 26.49 percent for goods and services, 3.85 percent for research grants, and 6.91 percent for capital expenditure.
Speaking about the budget, Professor Dr. Mohammad Solaiman, Treasurer of Comilla University, said, “In the 2007-08 financial year, the budget was only Tk 1 crore 10 lakh. From there, it has now increased to Tk 76 crore 10 lakh. The positive thing is that compared to last year, the government allocation has increased while the university’s own funding has decreased. In the future, the total budget will increase according to the overall needs of the university.”
Vice-Chancellor of Comilla University, Professor Dr. Md. Haydar Ali, said, “The budget will be spent with utmost transparency and accountability.”
