Although fruits are found all year round in the capital the latest technology is selective breeding and gene therapy has resulted in the development of fruits which are available all year round. As a result, many seasonal fruits are now available in the capital.

From grapes, oranges and apples of red and green to mangoes many fruits are now being enjoyed by the public. But, most of the fruits which are present at these stalls are imported from abroad. The majority of the imported fruits are apples, grapes, malta (manadrins), and pomegranate. According to experts, although the production of fruits is increasing locally, this can't meet the local demand. The demand for local fruits is also increasing. Papayas and bananas are grown throughout the year. Despite that, the supply of local fruits falls between January and September.  Sources said that around 30 per cent imported fruits are sold and bought in Dhaka, 15 per cent in Chittagong, and the remaining 55 per cent across the country.
