Cold wave intensifies in Dinajpur, Thakurgaon

One killed by burning while taking heat

A third phase of cold-wave has hit Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts since Monday morning. At least one woman was killed by burning while taking heat in a village of Thakurgaon district. 

Asmati Bewa (70), wife of late Raoshan Ali of Fultola village under Baliadangi upazila died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Monday by being burnt in fire while feeling heat from burning furnace at her room. Sources informed, on Monday and till 12-00 noon on Wednesday, the sun was not visible in the sky. The sky remained shrouded in mist and the bone throabbing cold-wind from the northern Himalayan region was making the condition of people miserable. 

Local sources informed, on Monday morning widowed Asmoti sat at her room to take heat by burning fire when her cloth was torched in fire which spread to her entire body burning her fatally. Local people rescued her from the place and rushed her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the doctors advised to send her to DMCH, however, she succumbed to her injury on her way to DMCH. Meanwhile our Dinajpur correspondent informed, after drizzling for hours, the cold-wave intnesified in Dinajpur district.

The lowest day temperature recorded in the district was 8.4 degree Celsius which is also the lowest in the country on Wednesday morning. The entire day remained shrouded in mist and the bitter wind was further intensifying the sufferings of the people of the district. Motor vehicles through the roads of the district were seen to move by switching the head lights on.

Sources further said, the intensity of cold was greater than that in the town areas and people were reluctant to come out of their houses except for emergency.
