Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga is shivering in winter. The temperature has been fluctuating between 9 and a half degrees to 13 degrees in Jibannagar Upazila for the past one week. The sun did not appear until 12 noon on Tuesday. Even though the sun appeared in the afternoon, the level of cold did not decrease at all in the mild frosty air. As a result, the people of this area are in distress.
The combination of severe winter and cold wind is disrupting the normal life of the common people of Jibannagar. The hardworking people of this area have suffered more. Low-income people were seen warming themselves by burning straw in various corners of the area and at tea shops in an attempt to ward off the cold. In severe winter, no one goes out of the house except for essential work. Blankets have been distributed among the cold people by the government to save them from winter.
Chuadanga Sadar Hospital pediatrician Dr Mahbubur Rahman Milon said that many patients are receiving treatment outside the hospital for various cold-related diseases including respiratory problems and diarrhea in winter. Besides, three to four hundred children are treated outdoors every day. The number of pneumonia patients is also increasing due to winter.
Abdul Hakeem, a rickshaw driver of Jibannagar Upazila, said that even though he left his house because of his stomach, no passengers could be found. The whole body trembles in the wind. If it continues like this for a few more days, it will not be possible to go to work in the morning. Minarul Islam, a day laborer, said that he could not go to work this morning only because of the extreme cold. It will not be possible to go to work if it is cold like this.
Nasir, a hotel worker, said that every morning there is a lot of pressure in the hotel for breakfast. That is why you have to work after Fajr Azan. If you touch water in the morning, you feel paralyzed. Can't move the fingers. Still working on my stomach.
