Cold wave disrupts people’s life in southern districts

Chuadanga's public life has been disrupted by severe winter. As the day progressed, the sun appeared, but due to the cold current, the intensity of winter has not yet decreased. Chuadanga recorded a temperature of 6.3 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Thursday. Which is the lowest temperature in the entire country. Besides, this is the lowest temperature in this district this season.

  In severe winter, no one goes out of the house except for essential work. As a result, people who eat daily have faced the most problems. Since early morning, low-income people have been seen warming themselves by lighting fires at various junctions and tea shops in the area to try to ward off the cold.

 Meanwhile, due to severe winter, the number of cold patients has increased in hospitals. Especially children and elderly people are flocking to the hospital due to various diseases including pneumonia, shortness of breath, diarrhea. In the last three days, about 1500 patients, including children, have been treated outdoors due to cold in Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, the district agriculture extension department has issued special precautions to protect Boro paddy seedbeds and potato fields due to thick fog. In order to protect the rice seed bed, it is recommended to remove the dew from the seedlings in the morning, cover the seedlings at night if possible, irrigate the seed bed and drain the water the next morning, and apply gypsum and urea fertilizers to the seed bed. 

For this reason, the officials of the agriculture department are performing their duties with caution at the field level, said Subhas Chandra Saha, deputy director of the district agriculture extension department. Children and students are suffering a lot in severe winter.

  Some students who came to study privately said that it is very difficult to go to private study in the morning for 6-7 days. Because earlier I used to travel by van or easy bike. But due to the severe cold wave, it is almost impossible to travel via vehicles in the morning. The hands and feet are freezing in the cold wind.

Bilal Hossain, head teacher of Chuadanga Government Victoria Jubilee Secondary School, said that the school's morning shift has been made from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. due to winter. While 70 percent of students appear in classes III, IV and V, it is close to 50 percent in classes above.

Some parents say that children do not want to get up in severe winter. We can't force it either. Because of this sometimes children are late to go to school.

Day laborer Bahar Sheikh said that hands and feet are getting cold in severe winter. Still the work does not stop. Forced to go to work. Many people have to return home without getting work in winter.

Chuadanga Sadar Hospital supervisor Dr. Ataur Rahman said that the number of diarrhea and pneumonia patients is increasing due to rotavirus in severe winter. Most of the patients are children. 

More than three to four hundred elderly people are receiving treatment in the outdoor hospital for various cold-related diseases including respiratory distress and diarrhea. In the last three days, about 1500 patients, including children, have been treated outdoors due to cold in Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga First Class Meteorological Observatory, said the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.3 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Thursday. The air humidity was 97 percent. Which is the lowest temperature in the entire country. This is the lowest temperature in the district during this season.
