Cold-stricken people of Rangunia get winter blankets

Eighty-year-old Muharram Ali (70) came from Sonargaon village in South Rajanagar union of Rangunia upazila of Chattogram district. Receiving the winter blanket, he smiled and said, “I had to suffer a lot in the winter. I can’t explain my gratitude that our son Information Minister Hasan Mahmud gifted us those blanket.”

Zainab Begum (55) of Khandaliyapara village, said, “There in one to see the sufferings of the village’s cold stricken people. May Allah protect him who is giving winter clothes (blankets) in search of poor people like us.” 

Clod stricken poor families of Rangunia upazila of Chattogram, which is surrounded by hills and plains, have said these cheerful and smiling words after receiving the gift of the Information and Broadcasting Minister as 'Winter Blanket'.

On Sunday, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Hasan Mahmud’s family organization NNK Foundation distributed blankets in the middle of about 500 winters in South Rajnagar Union of Rangunia. 

From the beginning of this month, the Information Minister took initiative to distribute blankets among the people of 15 unions and 1 municipality of Rangunia upazila of Chattogram and Sreepur-Kharandhip union of Boalkhali upazila. About 10,000 blankets have been delivered so far. NNK Foundation official Master Abdur Rauf said blankets would continue to reach the doorsteps of cold-stricken poor families living in remote villages in Rangunia or in the foothills.

There was a wave of happiness and joy in the eyes of these cold people when they got the blankets.

South Rajanagar UP Chairman Ahmed Syed Talukder, Upazila Awami League Religious Affairs Secretary Jasim Uddin Talukder, NNK Foundation official Enamul Haque, Shaibal Chakraborty and others were present during the distribution of blankets at East Rajanagar Government Primary School in Dakshin Rajanagar Union.

Information minister personal officer Emrul Karim Rashed said that every union of Rangunia upazila, surrounded by the river Karnafuli, is situated at the foot of the hill. As a result, there is severe winter here. The cold stricken people of Rangunia are feeling the severity of winter in the last few days. The most vulnerable are the marginalized and the poor. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmud stood by these needy people. Poor people are happy to get blankets.
