Cold-related diseases now spell disasters for children because of the continued cold spell across the country including the capital city of Dhaka. Most of the patients crowding different hospitals are children. Children are suffering from various respiratory ailments like pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, shortness of breath, diarrhoea.
Children already suffering from asthmatic problems are admitted to Dhaka Children’s Hospital. Besides, the number of people suffering from pneumonia is increasing. Doctors said that parents should take special care of their children during the cold wave.
As there are more patients than beds in the children's wards of government hospitals, the floors and balconies of the hospitals are filled with child patients. Most of the people who are undergoing treatment in these hospitals are poor.
Doctors of Dhaka Children’s Hospital said that it was shivering cold. If parents want to take their babies out, they should adequately wrap them up with warm clothes as protective measure from cold. Room temperature should be kept high during extreme cold. At the same time, babies should not sweat due to excessive room temperature during night.
