Cold-affected patients on rise in Chuadanga, mercury to drop further

Daily lives of people of Chuadanga have been affected by shivering cold waves. Especially the suffering of the destitute and helpless people has reached extremes. Braving the severe winter, hardworking people who went out in search of work are in trouble. Chuadanga recorded a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the cold front continues over the district. People's life has been disrupted due to severe winter. No one leaves the house without special need.

Town van driver Akbar Hossain said that it is very difficult to drive the van due to the cold wind. Very few passengers. Due to extreme cold, people are not meeting. There are less people on the streets.

Day laborer Rubel Hossain said that it is bone-chilling cold outside and the wind has increased the intensity of winter. Due to the foggy nature, visibility has decreased also. Thus commuting through roads have become riskier during this season. Still the work does not stop. People in the area are forced to go to work. Many people have to return home without getting work in winter.

Rafiqul Haque, an employee, said that he has to leave for the office by 8 am. He is walking to office due to severe winter. It keeps the body warm. But the situation is almost unbearable due to the severe cold and increasing cold wave.

Hotel employee Nashir Uddin said that there is pressure in the hotel for breakfast in the morning. That's why the work pressure since Fajr Azan. If you put your hand in water, it seems that your hand is going to be paralyzed. Many during the morning cannot even move the fingers.  But they still have to work. The owner will not pay wages if he is afraid of cold, he said.

Dr. Ataur Rahman of Cuadanga Sadar hospital said, the number of diarrhea and pneumonia patients is increasing due to rotavirus in severe winter. Most of the patients are children. More than three to four hundred elderly people are receiving treatment in the outdoor hospital for various cold-related diseases including respiratory distress and diarrhea. In the last 3 days, 87 patients have been admitted to the diarrhea ward and 67 patients have been admitted to the infant ward. Besides, about 400 children are treated outdoors every day. The number of pneumonia patients is increasing due to winter.

Chuadanga First Class Meteorological Observatory Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Hasan said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday at 9 am. The air humidity was 93 percent. The cold streak will continue during this week.
