A rare coconut tree with 11 branches has been discovered at the historic Kachikata School and College at Moshinda union in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore.
The tree actually had 12 branches, but one branch had dried up and withered. The remaining 11 branches are vibrant and healthy. Locals have mentioned that this is the first time such a coconut tree has been spotted in the area.
Abdul Bari, a former student of Kachikata School and College and the chairman of Moshinda union parishad, said that the tree was planted during their student days under the leadership of the late Sarfotullah Talukder.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Salma Akhter assured that swift measures will be taken for the preservation and care of the rare tree.
