Coast Guard seizes current net, 19 held

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard Pagla Station and Gazaria station have conducted drives in MunshiganjSadar Thana area and seized 33.4 million meters of current net from the area. Nineteen people have been arrested during the drive on Tuesday.

Pagla Station Commander Lieutenant M Ashmadul led a drive on the basis of information to seize illegal current nets in Munshiganj area. Huge stash of nets were seized from ten factories of the area. These factories are Tanmay Fishing Net Industries Ltd, Habib Fishing Net Industries Ltd, Jainal Fishing Net Industries Ltd, Rahim Fishing Net Industries Ltd, Jainal Fishing Net Industries, Suman Fishing Net Industries Bacchu Fishing Net Industries, Manik Fishing Net Industries, Khokon Fishing Net Industries, Talukdar Fishing Net Industries and Ekota Fishing Net Industries. More than 33.4 million metres of current net were seized from these factories. Value of these nets was estimated more than Taka 100 crore.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officers Tipu Sultan, Executive Magistrate ShihabulArif and other officials were present during the drive.  Actions are being taken against the arrestees.

Coast Guard later at a press briefing said that such drives against illegal fishing, pirates, robbery will be conducted frequently.
