Coast Guard seizes 1.3m shrimp in Barishal

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) have captured a wooden boat with 13.5 lakh shrimp larvae from Meghna River in Hizla upazila of Barishal.  BCG personnel on Thursday conducted the raid.

Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Lieutenand Com­mander AmirulHaque on Friday stated that at a press briefing. 

Lt. Commander AmirulHaque said that, receiving a tip-off, a team of Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted a raid at Meghna River in Hizla upazila. 

During the raid, a wooden boat with several barrels was seized. 

The smugglers sensed the raid earlier and fled from the spot. Upon further inspection, more than 13.5 lakhs of shrimp larvae were rescued from those barrels.  No one could be detained during the raid. 

BCG later released the shrimps at Meghna River in presence of Hizla Upazila Senior Fisheries OfficerMd Abdul Alim. 

The boat was handed over to fisheries department. 

Lt. Commander Amirul Haque during the press briefing said that BCG will continue these raids to curb down the crime rate in 

the area.
