Personnel of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) recovered 105,000 Yaba tablets in a raid on the Naf River in Cox's Bazar’s Teknaf.

The operation was carried out in early hours on Friday on the Naf River near Barkhal under Teknaf's Sabrang Union, said Sayidul, lieutenant commander-in-charge of the Coast Guard's Teknaf station.

However, he said that they could not arrest the smuggler as he escaped.

Lt Commander Sayidul informed that a Coast Guard team launched the operation in the early hours on the basis of the information that a large shipment of Yaba pills had arrived from Myanmar through the Naf River near the Barakhal area of Sabrang in Teknaf. At one point, Coast Guard personnel noticed a man with a sack swimming across the water's zero line. When the torchlight fell on him, the man swam away leaving the sack and fled towards Myanmar.

Later, the floating sack was recovered. After opening the sack, 105,000 Yaba pills were found wrapped in polythene.

The Yaba pills were handed over to Teknaf police station, said Lt. Commander Sayidul.
