Officers of Bangladesh Coast Guard in different drives nabbed four with rare gecko and foreign liquor from Teknaf and Patharghata Upazila on Wednesday night, a press release said.
Teknaf BCG stated that Acting on a tip-off, officers of Coast Guard in Teknaf area conducted a drive at Shahpari area. During the drive, Coast Guard found a boat which was coming from Myanmar border to Shahpori Island area. As the movement of the boat seemed suspicious, Coast Guard officers chased the boat. After capturing the boat, officers recovered 252 bottles of illegal whiskey. Three paddlers were nabbed along with the boat during the drive. These paddlers along with the liquor and the boat have been handed over to Teknaf Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, Officers from BCG Station Patharghata led by Lieutenant FahimShahriar conducted a drive and arrested one smuggler with six rare geckos. The arrested Riaz Akon is from Manikkhali area of Patharghata Upazila. Later the geckos were released in Haringhata forest at the presence of forest officers. Patharghata UNO fined the smuggler tk 20, 000.
Officials of Coast Guard in a press release said that such drives will be continued to curb the wrongdoings and protect the wildlife in the area.
