Coast Guard keeping sea safe

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized smuggled goods worth of Tk 113 crore last year.

Talking to Bangladesh Post, Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque, Media Officer of the Coast Guard confirmed it.

He said, “We also seized fishing nets worth Tk 1,339.56 crore, illegal drugs worth Tk 99.5 crore and various types of timber worth Tk 3.8 crore last year.” 

According to him, Coast Guard also stands beside the helpless and jobless people with food during the lockdown period due to the pandemic COVID-19. 

Under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under the supervision of the Home Minister and with the tireless cooperation of the Ministry of Home, the capability of this force has increased significantly through addition of various modern ships, bases and vessels.

On November 15 last year, 9 ships and a base were added to the Coast Guard with the aim of building a modern and up-to-date force, the media head of the Coast Guard told Bangladesh Post on the eve of its 26th  founding anniversary. 

Every member of the Coast Guard is motivated and determined to take the development and progress of the country forward by building the Coast Guard as a more effective, strong and efficient force through skillful implementation of time bound and far-reaching plans, he added.

Bangladesh Coast Guard which was established in 1995, is continuing its efforts to make significant contributions to the security of the country's vast seas and coastal areas. It has become a trusted symbol of security and confidence among the people by ensuring law and order in the maritime and coastal areas of the country, protecting the lives and property of the people, curbing drug smuggling, human trafficking as well as providing relief and assistance during various natural disasters. 

In addition, due to the relentless efforts of the Coast Guard, Chittagong port has been removed from the list of risky ports and turned into a safe port.

The 26th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard is going to be celebrated today (Sunday) with great enthusiasm. 

On the eve of the golden jubilee of the great independence of Bangladesh, the 26th founding anniversary of the Coast Guard is going to be celebrated at the Coast Guard headquarters in city’s Agargaon area. 

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be present as the chief guest. Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry and other invited military and civilian guests will be present as special guests. 

Home Minister will also distribute the Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal, President Coast Guard Medal, Bangladesh Coast Guard (Service) Medal and President Coast Guard (Service) Medal among the Coast Guard officers, sailors and civilian officers and employees for their heroic and courageous deeds.

 Director General of Coast Guard Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haque will be awarded the Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal this year in recognition of his fearless contribution, heroism and courageous work.

 In addition, Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal (BCGM) will be awarded to Capt SM Moin Uddin, Lt Commander M Sajjad Hossain, Lt Commander Imtiaz Alam, Lt Commander Shah Zia Rahman, Lt Commander M Mehedi Hasan, Md Jahangir Alam, Mohammad Ali, Mahmud Sharif and M Abu Hanif.

Presidential Coast Guard Medal (PCGM) will be awarded to Capt. SM Sharif-ul Islam, Commander Md. Nizam Uddin Sardar, Lt. Commander M Firoz Khan, Lt. Commander M Bayazid, M Abdur Razzak, Md. Rezaul Karim, M Sohrab Hossain, M Yadul Islam, Md. Sumon Mia and Md. Ashiq Iqbal Shakil.

Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Capt M Nurul Islam Sharif, Commander SM Anwarul Karim, Surgeon Lt. Commander Fatema Tuj Johra, Md. Yaqub Ali, Md. Mamun Mia, Md. Monaim Hossain, Md. Saifur Rahman, Mamun-ur-Rashid and Md. Shahinul Haque, will be awarded Bangladesh Coast Guard (Service) Medal (BCGMS) this year. 

 President Coast Guard (Service) Medal (PCGMS) will be awarded to   Commander M Mahfuzur Rahman, Commander M Ashraful Alam, Commander M Lokman Hakim, Lt. Commander Mostafa Tariq Haider,  Honorary Sub-Lieutenant Mohammad Sekil, M Abdus Salam Mia,  M Saiful Islam,  Yusuf Al Mamun, Md. Atiqul Bari and Md. Yakub Monna.
