Coast Guard becomes powerful force

Home Minister says at Coast Guard Day programme

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that since its inception, Bangladesh Coast Guard has been playing vital role in protecting the law and order in maritime boundaries, coastal areas, fisheries and forest resources. He called upon the members of the force to continue their work with patriotism, sincerity, honesty, courage and cordiality to ensure full proof security of the country’s maritime and coastal regions.

He was speaking at a programme as the chief at headquarters of Bangladesh Coast Guard at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the force and the Coast Guard Day-2020. Asked whether the Rohingya surveillance was weak, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the Rohingya surveillance was not weak at all. They are under strict surveillance. A total of 11 lakh Rohingyas live there, which is 3 times more than the people of Teknaf. Police, RAB, BGB and Ansar are working for their supervision.

He said that it has been decided to construct a barbed wire fence at Rohingya camp under the direction of the Prime Minister. In the meantime, the Army is beginning to build a barbed wire fence; so that the Rohingya cannot leave the camp and mix with the people. In addition, watch towers and CCTVs will be set up to further strengthen the surveillance of the Rohingya. He said all the forces are ready so that they could not leave.

Regarding the Coast Guard, the minister said that the Coast Guard has become a powerful force. The force has been working to control various offenses, including preventing smuggling of ships and preventing illegal fishing, with the ship-speedboat. The Coast Guard is also working to protect the environment. He said that the incumbent government has been  implementing various projects to build the Coast Guard as a capable force so that they could contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
