On early Tuesday, members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Station in Teknaf conducting an operation in the area adjacent to Teknaf land port in Cox’s Bazar arrested a yaba smuggler with 14,000 yaba pills.
A small pickup used for smuggling the yaba tablets was seized at the time.
BCG officials said a team of Coast Guard led by BCG Station Teknaf Commander Lt. Commander M Aminul Sajjad took position in Teknaf Bazar area on the basis of secret information.
At the time, realizing the presence of the Coast Guard, a small pickup (moon car) tried to escape. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard chased the pickup and seized it from the area adjacent to the Teknaf land port.
The vehicle was later searched by a Coast Guard member and
14,000 pieces of yaba were found
hidden under the driver's seat of the pickup.
The driver of the vehicle Md. Muktar Ahmed (35), son of Syed Ahmed of Dakshin Ali Khali area under Teknaf police station in Cox's Bazar district was arrested in this connection.
The seized yaba tablets, yaba smugglers and vehicles used in the smuggling have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.
The official further said that regular operations are being carried out in the areas covered by Bangladesh Coast Guard to maintain law and order, to ensure public safety as well as to curb forest piracy, curb robbery and drug trade by adopting a zero tolerance policy.
