The district administration has taken an initiative of starting a co-operative marketing programme in an effort to sell essential commodities at a fair price.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Natore Asma Shahin inaugurated the programme at district Muktijoddah Complex at around 9.30am on Saturday.

At the market, set up by district administration, beef was sold at Taka 630 per kilogram, eggs were sold at Taka 43-45 per four pieces, along with live

chicken, spices and different kinds of vegetables are also being sold at fair price in the market. The price of the essentials are comparatively cheaper than any other markets in the district as the members of different co-operative associations are procuring goods directly from the producers and selling those in this market, said Mohammad Hossen Shahid, district co-operative officer. "The market has started to supply essentials at fair price among the consumers. So, we are trying to set up such markets in line with this concept," the DC said, adding that if fair price marketing of goods could be possible through the market there will be a positive impact on the conventional market.

Price of the commodities ultimately will decline, she added.

Co-operative department established the market with the association of the district administration that will run every day.
