Police in Eidgaon, Cox’s Bazar, have arrested a CNG driver with a locally made single-barrel gun during a special operation.
The operation took place on Tuesday morning near the petrol pump owned by Anu Mia Sikder at the Eidgaon bus station area.
Sub-Inspector Ashraful Islam of Eidgaon Police Station confirmed the incident.
The arrested driver has been identified as Jafar Alam, aged 37, son of the late Siddiq Ahmed from Ward 8 of Eidgaon Union.
According to Sub-Inspector Ashraful, police conducted the operation based on a tip-off. During the raid, a man driving a CNG auto-rickshaw was acting suspiciously. Upon searching him, police recovered a homemade single-barrel gun from his possession.
The driver was immediately detained and taken to the police station for further questioning.
Legal action is currently underway in connection with the recovery of the firearm.
Police say they are continuing efforts to curb the illegal possession and circulation of arms in the area and such operations will be carried out regularly.
