A total of 50 police officers of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) were selected on the basis of merit and transferred to different units by lottery. CMP Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rahman did such an extraordinary job on Sunday.
The sub inspector (SI) rank police officers, including directly appointed sub-inspectors, divisional sub-inspectors and a few sergeants, were given their jobs on the basis of qualification after their two years training. Later, they were transferred to different units of Chittagong Metropolitan Police by lottery. That is a completely new phenomenon in the case of Bangladesh Police.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the CMP Abu Bakkar Siddique said, "The incident has created a lot of enthusiasm and encouragement among the police personnel of all levels. There is no doubt that such an initiative will go a long way in the current government's efforts to build a sustainable and talented police force."
