The surging rates of deaths and infections due to the Covid-19 pandemic have increased the possibility of prolonging the closure of educational institutions across the country.
Educational institutions have been announced to be closed till June 30, but the government has already declared a nationwide shutdown from June 28.
So, the prevailing state of corona situation will increase the closure of the educational institution in compliance with the restrictions, say the concerned officials.
A senior official of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) said, the closure will continue until the infection rate drops below 5 percent even if the restrictions are relaxed.
He told the media that even with the announcement in February and this June, it was not possible to open the educational institutions due to the surge in corona transmission. In this situation, it is uncertain whether it will be possible to open the educational institutions at all this year.
He added that it was not clear when the third wave of Corona would end. It cannot be said that the educational institutions can be reopened even if the infection goes down.
Earlier, Education Minister Dipu Moni said no risk will be taken if the situation comes to not normal.
Alamgir Muhammad Mansurul Alam, Director General of the Department of Primary Education, recently told the media, “There are all kinds of preparations to open the educational institutions on the date announced by the government. The institutions can be opened only if the government gives directives. But everything depends on the situation. "
Meanwhile, a severe lockdown is scheduled to start across the country for seven days from June 28 to prevent coronavirus transmission. All government and private offices will be closed except emergency services. No one can leave the house without an urgent reason. All types of vehicles except emergency goods and freight transports will be closed at this time.
