The National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Chuadanga district office, carried out a monitoring drive in the Hospital Road area of the town on Wednesday. During the inspection, two clinics and diagnostic centres were fined a total of Tk 60,000 for various irregularities.
The investigation found that expired reagents were being stored in refrigerators and used for tests. Under Section 51 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009, Jonota Clinic and Diagnostic Centre – jointly owned by Jannatul, Hasan, Ismail, Hasnat, Shakil and Oli – was fined Tk 30,000. Another Tk 30,000 fine was imposed on New Jonota Diagnostic Centre, owned by Md Mominul Islam.
In total, Tk 60,000 was collected in penalties. The authorities also instructed the institutions to update their necessary documents and to stop using expired reagents.
The operation was led by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Chuadanga district office. He was assisted by Naresh Chandra Biswas, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment, Nargis Jahan, Municipal Sanitary Inspector, CAB representative Md Rafiqul Islam, and a team from the district police.
