Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the governments and businesses to take urgent action to innovate and advance climate adaptation solutions in light of new research findings. A Global Commission on Adaptation report found that investing $1.9 trillion globally from 2020 to 2030 in five areas could yield $7 trillion in net benefits.

In the last few years, Bangladesh has taken several initiatives to combat the effects of climate change. The matter is of great urgency as Bangladesh is one of the countries which will be most affected by climate change. As a low-lying country, Bangladesh will likely go under water in the next few decades if steps are not taken immediately.

The government must fund projects and research initiatives to preserve the environment. Corporate organizations should do their part by shifting to sustainable models of production. The government must hold companies accountable for their actions and ensure that they make the necessary changes in their activities to safeguard the environment.

Policy makers in our country must

prioritize climate change action

 and ensure sustainable development

The general public in our country is still for the most part unaware of the devastating effects that climate change can have. As a result, they do not care about reducing their carbon footprint or switching to sustainable lifestyles. Children should be taught the importance of environmentally conscious behavior. Adults must also make the necessary changes in their lives.

As a developing nation, our carbon footprint is much less compared to the wealthier nations. However, this does not excuse us from doing our level best to save the planet. Policy makers in our country must prioritize climate change action and ensure sustainable development.

Schools, colleges and universities must regularly promote and encourage their students to plant more trees in both rural and urban areas. Protecting our invaluable resources is our duty and should be the top priority for each and every individual. If everyone pledges to do their part in protecting the environment, we will be able to reduce our carbon footprint and fight the effects of climate change.
