Every year after Eid-ul-Azha, tons of wastes from sacrificial animals scatter around various places in the capital which not only pollute the environment but the unbearable odour also makes it difficult for everyone to use the streets.

There is no denying that the two city corporations take various measures to remove the waste as soon as possible. However, those are certainly not enough as even after second day of Eid, heaps of waste are still seen in the older part of the city.

According to a report published in this daily on Saturday, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) removed more than 15,733 metric tonnes and 16,518 metric tonnes of waste respectively. The total waste removal amounted to over 32000 metric tonnes.

We as residents of Dhaka should

also play our part to keep the

city clean

However, the responsibility to keep our city clean and liveable does not fall solely on the shoulders of the government alone. We as residents of Dhaka should also play our part to keep the city clean as it is us who produce the wastes. Therefore, we should be more sincere in not throwing the animals’ waste anywhere on the streets.

We should place them in garbage bags and keep them in designated places so that it can be removed as soon as possible by city corporation workers swiftly. Therefore,  authorities concerned should remove the remaining animals waste’ as quickly as possible to avert the spread of bad odour. The timely exclusion of leftovers from sacrificial animals is necessary as the health of millions of people depends on it.
