Seven police officers were injured while trying to control a violent clash between two rival groups over a market lease in Patuakhali’s Lohalia Union on Wednesday night. The incident took place around 10pm at Palpara Bazaar.

Police and local sources said the dispute began over the lease of the Palpara market. Following a previous conflict, Sohag Majhi and his associates allegedly attacked local BNP leader Mofizul with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He was later transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

When police arrived to bring the situation under control, the attackers turned on them, injuring seven officers. Among the wounded are ASI Zohir, ASI Rahman, and constables Mohibullah and Saiful Islam, who are now receiving treatment at Patuakhali Sadar Hospital. Three others were given primary medical care.

Additional police units later reached the scene and fired blank shots to disperse the mob. On Thursday morning, police detained three suspects—Aminul Haque Chowdhury (48), Palash Hawlader (23), and Ramzan Ali (80).

Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Imtiaz Ahmed said a case is being prepared over the attack on police.
