Mayoral candidates of Awami Leage and BNP on Saturday conducted their electioneering campaigns by keeping almost same pledges to the people.
Candidates went door to door to seek votes, distribute leaflets and made a number of pledges which is almost same irrespective of party and symbols. There seems to be no fresh new pledges to give hope of a better environment in the city.
They said that they would make Dhaka as a modern and livable city if elected as mayor but they fell short of giving outlines on how would they make the city so modern.
Fazle Noor Taposh’s election campaign
Awami League mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Saturday started his election campaign through seeking vote from Saidabad area.
During the campaign Taposh said, “We are getting spontaneous response from the people where we are going. We have given the outline of development; the people of Dhaka have accepted the outline that we have given for the development of Dhaka. They are responding spontaneously.”
He also said, “Only City Corporation will work for three years for infrastructure development, no other organizations will be allowed to work.” A good number of people, AL activists were present during his election campaign.”
“We are hopeful that you (people) will elect Awami League nominated councilor candidates in the Dhaka South City elections on January 30. We will work to build a modern, peaceful, and livable Dhaka”, he added.
Atiqul’s election campaign
Awami League nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam started his campaign from capital’s Kochukhet Bazar area under DNCC ward no 15 and 16.
Then he visited East Shewrapara, Ibrahimpur, and Senpara Parbata Adarsha School area.
“If I’m elected as the mayor and our leaders are elected as councilors, we will start working to ensure service for the city people. It is our pledges before the city dwellers,” he said while speaking at the campaign.
He also promised to make Dhaka as a modern and livable city and sought votes for the boat symbol.
Ishraque’s campaign
BNP nominated mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) started his election campaign from Dhaka Collegiate School of Sadarghat.
He said, “We do not think that there is any guardian of Dhaka city. We visited Jatrabari, Kadamtoli and Shaympur area yesterday. I saw waste were everywhere in those areas and it is not livable at all. Not only Shaympur or Jatrabari, the entire situation of Dhaka is almost same. I want to make Dhaka livable for all.”
Mentioning various problems of Dhaka city, Ishraque, called upon the people to cast votes in favour of sheaf of paddy in order to make the capital a livable city.
Tabith Awal’s election campaign
BNP nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal on Saturday started his campaign from Banglabazar under Kotwali Police Station.
During his campaign at roadside, Tabith said, “A mass wave has been created in favour of BNP. No conspiracy of the government will be fruitful against this mass people.
Then Tabith visited Ahsanullah Monjil, Islampur, Ahshan Ullah road, Nobab Bari Gate, Zindabahar, Bauani School, Armanitola, Siddik Bazar and Kaptan Bazar. He distributed leaflets among the people and sought votes.
