Two city corporations of Dhaka continuing their anti-dengue campaign vigorously to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito that is responsible for dengue infection. The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday launched a campaign to destroy the probable breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito.

“From today (Sunday), our inspection team from the 57 wards, accompanied by a health department team, will visit different houses,” DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said while inaugurating the campaign. “A team will clean some 30 houses and commercial buildings each day, that is, some 1710 houses will be cleaned every day. Thus, a total of 25,000 houses will be cleaned of Aedes mosquitoes in 15 days,” he continued.

Some 68 mobile medical teams have been working. They have so far treated some 21,057 patients, he added. The mayor also stressed the need for cooperation between the two city corporations to destroy Aedes mosquito and its breeding grounds. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam participated in a mass awareness campaign against dengue and chikungunya at the Capital’s Uttara area.

As part of his awareness campaign, the mayor visited different schools and colleges including Rajuk Uttara Model College and Azampur Government School. He urged students to clean their households at their own initiative.  The mayor said, “If the students and all of the people of our society come forward, we will be able to protect the city from dengue infection.”

Earlier on Monday last, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) started a 15-day programme to introduce diagnosis facilities to confirm dengue infections in all the 57 wards of DSCC which will continue till July 30. According to DSCC sources, a total of 68 mobile medical teams are working to identify dengue-infected patients and refer them to 476 health centres where primary treatment would be available.
