A man was killed and three others injured as a chunk of wall fell on them following an explosion in a building in the city’s Shanir Akhra area in the capital  on Monday morning, reports BSS.

The wall collapsed on a number of pedestrians following an explosion at a private bank office located on the 3rd floor of the building around 9:23am, leaving one dead and three injured, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Services Headquarters Md Nazimuzzaman told BSS.

The deceased was identified as Farid Ahmed, 50, a hat trader, while the injured were bakery manager Kamal, 40, van puller Saidul, 30, and fruits’ trader Jakir Hossain, 35, he said, adding that all of them were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hosptial (DMCH).

Getting information, Nazimuzzaman said, a number of fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control at around 10am.

He also said the building housed a hotel on the ground floor and banks on the second and third floors. The third and second floors of the house, however, were damaged, he added. Nazimuzzaman said that the Fire Services had already formed a probe body to investigate the matter.
