The Directorate of Consumer Rights has fined a wholesaler for selling rice at a higher price in Chuadanga's Jibannagar and two auto-rickshaws for not displaying the price list properly. Sajal Ahmed, assistant director of Chuadanga district office of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, raided separate places of Jibannagar upazila on Monday at 3:30 pm and fined those three companies 1 lakh 70 thousand taka.
According to the sources of the operation, the operation was carried out in the wholesale market of rice called M/s Ekta Traders in Jibannagar town.
At that time, due to not keeping the vouchers of purchase and sale of rice and the proof of selling rice at extra price was found, according to the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009, a fine of 40,000 taka was imposed.
On the other hand, Desh Bangla Auto rice mill has been fined Tk 60,000 for marketing fake Indian brand rice in plastic bags and not displaying the price list properly, despite being warned earlier. Apart from this, Satta Auto rice Mill has been fined 70 thousand rupees for the same crime.
