The farmers of Chuadanga district are expecting to earn Tk 18 core by cultivating vegetable this year, sources said.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), about 25000 hectares of land were brought under vegetable cultivation at four upazilas in the district. Over 30 types of vegetables are being produced there. The name of the seasonal crop are Kharip-1, Kharip-2 and ORB.
It is learnt that 4,50,000 tons of vegetable are expected to produce whole the year. The farmers will earn to earn Tk 18 crore in 2020.
Sufi Mohammad Rofiquzzaman, District Training Officer of (DAE), said that about 200 trucks are being loaded with vegetables at different points of Chuadanga district daily for sale in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Moniruzzaman, agriculture officer of Dhamurhuda upazila, said vegetables are being loaded on three trucks from eight points of the upazila daily for selling these at different areas of the country.
Sobuj Reja, a farmer of village Buropara in Alamdanga upazila of the district, said that he has been cultivating vegetable on 25 bighas of land this year.
Mohammad Ali Hasan, Deputy Director of DAE, said that farmers are now passing busy time in cultivating vegetable. The farmers are interested in vegetable farming due to getting fair prices at the time of selling their produced items. Most of the farmers specially youths are involved for producing vegetables.
