Chattogram City Corporation (CHSIC) felicitated 113 brave freedom fighters in the port city on Tuesday. The reception programmewas organized at the city's Engineers Institution Auditorium.
City Mayor Mohammad Rezaul Karim Chowdhury handed over the honorary crest and honorarium to the family members of the freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters.
In the speech of the chief guest, Mayor Rezaul said, I am happy to welcome the freedom fighters.Many of those whom I fought with on the call of Bangabandhu are no longer alive. My comrades along with me are at the end of life.It should be the oath of our freedom fighters to always work for highlighting the history, tradition, spirit and ideals of the liberation war among the youth.
“The youth must be prepared to implement the goals and objectives for which we fought for the liberation of the people. The journey to build Sonar Bangla has a long way to go.This responsibility must be taken by the youth. Because the youth can do what others cannot. In the war of liberation, mainly the youth were fighting on the front’ he added.
In the speech of the special guest, the Indian Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan said that helping Bangladesh in the liberation war is a glorious chapter in India's history.I am happy to come to the reception of the freedom fighters. India will provide
visas and other services to freedom fighters including medical treatment.
Bangladesh-India relationship has become a model in the world in terms of bilateral relations. I believe that this relationship will be stronger in the future, he further said.
Freedom Fighters Dr.Mahfuzur Rahman, ShahidulHaque Chowdhury Syed and Sarwar Kamal delivered their speech with CHSIC Secretary Khaled Mahmud in the chair.
