Chittagong Science Carnival 3.0' held at CU

Chittagong Science Carnival 3.0 has been held for the third time under the patronage of Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Limited and Biogene Cosmetics for the third time under the initiative of Chittagong University Scientific Society (CUSS).

Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shireen Akhtar was present as the chief guest at the science carnival held at CU Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium on Thursday morning.

CUSS Advisor CU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department Professor Dr. Laila Khaleda gave a welcome speech on the occasion.  CUSS Advisor and Professor of CU Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department Dr. Mohammad Al Forkan, Bashundhara Oil Company Limited Branch Manager Faraz Hossain Ruman and Biogen Cosmetics Senior Operations Manager Jannatul Ferdous also spoke.  CUSS President Minhazur Rahman presided over the event.  The opening speech was delivered by CUSS General Secretary Abdul Mohaimen Jamil Wasi and moderated by Divas Deb and Husnum Mamurat.

CU VC said, today's science fair has become a unique meeting fair with the students of schools, colleges and universities of the country.  This fair will play a very effective and fruitful role in removing the fear of science among young students.

She said, our students are very talented and promising.  If they can be trained in technology-based modern education, on the one hand, they will have employment opportunities in the future, and on the other hand, the nation will benefit.  We must all strive to develop students as skilled human resources to face the new challenges of the world.  Such fairs should be continued regularly.

 The CU Vice-Chancellor accompanied the guests to visit the various project exhibits at the day-long Science Fair.

Held in two phases, the first phase of the fair included opening ceremony, discussion meeting, various segment exhibitions and judging.  In the second phase, a seminar titled 'Usage and potential of renewable energy: Perspective Bangladesh' was held.  USTC Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nawshad Amin presented the keynote at the seminar.  

This year's science fair had various segments including poster presentation, project showcasing, hackathon, robo soccer competition, brainstorming, quiz etc.  Thousands of students from 61 educational institutions across the country participated in it.  Winners in each segment are awarded in separate categories.

CU Pro VC (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey, CU Social Science Faculty Dean Prof. Siraj Ud Daullah, CU Biological Science Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Tauhid Hossain, CHBI Engineering Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Rashed Mostafa, CHBI were present as special guests.  Professor Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Siddique, President of Teachers Association and Eminent Paediatrician Dr. Basna Rani Muhuri
