The visiting Chinese Covid19 team has extolled the hard working Bangladeshi frontline workers at hospitals and said they have also learnt during their two-week visit.

“We come here to share our experience and learn from each other. Yes there is some room for progress. But Bangladeshi health workers are hard workers and they are fighting the Covid19 with shortage of PPE and shortage of support and still they are finding way to work,” Dr Shuming Xianyu said.

Xianyu, director of the Hospital Infection Control Office of Hainan General Hospital, was sharing their experiences with the members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) on Sunday before leaving Dhaka on Monday.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Hualong Yan said they would submit a report with specific recommendations within a week of their departure to the ministry of health.

The 10-member team of experts, who has the firsthand experience of containing the virus and treating patients with remarkable success, came to Bangladesh with a bunch of medical equipment.

The Chinese Embassy said it shows one of the reflections of President Xi Jinping's assurance to the reality.

They visited designated hospitals, quarantine centres, and testing centres, and discussed on the epidemics with Bangladeshi counterparts.

Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on May 20 following which the team has arrived.

“Cooperation is very important bilaterally and multilaterally during this time of crisis,” the deputy chief of mission said.

He, however, said the Chinese team found the situation totally different in Bangladesh compared to China and suggested ways that suit the situation of the country in their recommendations.

They identified lack of public awareness as one of the problems.

The Chinese team stressed on two important issues for all – hand washing and discard masks properly without touching the outer surfaces which can be contaminated.

They said there is no rapid testing method to diagnose the disease. Still RT-PCR test is recommended.
