Children of Chitalmari get to learn writing on palm leaves

Published : 28 Dec 2022 07:51 PM

If you write on palm leaves, the line is straight. Handwriting is beautiful. That's why we teach them the alphabet on palm leaves. My children practice handwriting on palm leaves. Palm leaves and powdered coal ink are their teaching materials. Adarshalipi and Dharapat are taught in the class. Even in the modern era, village children spread mats on the ground and take this education with joy. And parents are quite happy to teach in this ancient education system. So we try to teach them not with money, but with the pull of the heart.

There are about fifty students in the classroom. Every year 10 to 15 people enroll in the nearest government primary school when they are suitable for class one.'' said Kalipad Bachar, a teacher of Dumuria Dakshinpara Shishu Shiksha Niketan (school) of Bagerhat's Chitalmari upazila around 12 noon on Monday.

He also said that his father's name was the son of deceased Yudhishti. He lives with his wife Vishkha Bachar in Dumuria Dakshinpara village of Sadar Union. At a young age, he received a scholarship in the fifth standard. After reaching the eighth grade, he could not continue his studies due to poverty. So in his last years he decided to light the light of education among children to remove the pain of not being able to do it.

Because there is no primary school within 3 to 4 km of their village. When the matter was told to Amulya Mandal of the village, he (Amulya Mandal) donated the 6th century land for Pathshala. Since then Dumuria Dakshinpara Shishu Shiksha Niketan was established in 2005. For 17 years, teacher Kalipad Bachar has been teaching village children without pay.

The students of Pathshala, Bikarna Mandal, Aparup Gain, Diya Mandal and Utsav Roy said that the teacher taught them very well. They are impressed with Sir's behavior.

Parents Banani Mandal, Shipra Mandal, Runa Mandal and Urmi Mandal said, 'In this age of modernity, education using palm leaves is not seen anymore. Our teacher teaches them education with great love. We stay in the classroom with the children from 9 am to 1 pm.'

Dumuria Dakshinpara Shishu Shiksha Niketan (school) president Vipul Majumder and general secretary Sanjit Roy said, "We, the villagers, have built a infrastructure of the school together. During the tide the water rises in the field. So children cannot play sports. In addition, children suffer greatly due to lack of clean water. That's why it would have been very beneficial to give sand filling and a tubewell by the government.

Chitalmari upazila education officer Aminul Islam said, "Our little goldsmiths are receiving education in a completely natural environment. I sincerely thank everyone including the teachers of that educational institution.

I promise to discuss the matter with the Upazila Chairman and Executive Officer (UNO) and remove the difficulties of that institution.
