Police have recovered the body of a child named Md Maruf (10) from a pond in Maijdi Bazar area of Noakhali district town.
The body was recovered from a pond in front of the Maijdi Technical School and College building under construction around 12 noon on Thursday.
Police said his body was found lying in a pond based on information from locals. Maruf is the son of the deceased Chana Ullah adjacent to the board school in Noakhali municipal area.
He used to look for broken goods and sell them in shops.
Maya Begum, the mother of the deceased child, said that Maruf came out of the house with 10 taka from her on Wednesday morning. After that he played some games with the boys and girls in the area. He has not returned home since. I used to come back every evening. But he did not return on Wednesday. He was later found in various places but could not be found. At one stage, it was decided to make a GD at Sudharam police station on Thursday. His body was found around 12 noon.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station Anwarul Islam said the body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Noakhali General Hospital with 250 beds. No signs of injuries were found on his body. Even then, it is being investigated whether it was murder or drowning.
