Belal Dafadar, accused of raping nine children in the city, was killed in a 'gunfight' with police. The incident took place in Shantinagar area at midnight on Wednesday.
Bayezid Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Preton Sarkar said the rapist Belal and his accomplices fired at the police during a raid in Shantinagar area at night on the basis of secret information. Police also fired back in self-defense. Belal's body was later found shot at the spot. There were 9 child rape cases against the rapist Belal. Besides, there are 4 more cases in the police station on other allegations.
Police recovered a gun, eight cartridges, 500 pieces of yaba and 15 sexually stimulating pills from the scene. Five policemen were injured in the incident, the official said.
Belal Dafadar was arrested by police in 2016 on charges of raping two children. However, he was involved in child rape again on bail.
