Child dies of dengue in Rangpur

A 12-year-old girl died of mosquito-borne disease dengue in Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Manisha Akter, 12, daughter of Makbul Hossain of Dinajpur district. Dr Sultan Ahmed, acting director of RMCH, said Manisha first got admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital on August 26.  But doctors there suggested her guardian to shift her to RMCH.

Makbul took his daughter to RMCH the same day. “She was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit where she breathed her last around 4am,” said Dr Ahmed. 

According to the Director General of Health Services, 1,157 new patients were hospitalised across the country till Wednesday. The government said 67,221 patients were hospitalised with the disease since January 1. Of them, 61,822 were discharged after recovery.

 According to official figures, currently 5,222 people are being treated in different hospitals and clinics. Of them, 2,882 are in Dhaka and 2,340 outside the capital. The government has so far confirmed 52 deaths after reviewing 88 deaths. On Tuesday, six dengue-related deaths were reported from five districts.
